Time for a boost

Is your team struggling with the increasing demands, is the amount of work, expectations and ‘stuff’ to do getting your people down? Are you curious about how your team are feeling and if you are doing the things that can make a difference for them as they keep on showing up and delivering?

Here are 3 simple ways you can lift morale in your team (or wider), spread some joy and change the way it feels to work in healthcare for the better. My promise is that you can all do these things, you already have the talents and skills to do them. You can be the change you want to see in the world.

Smile

Smile at someone, they'll likely smile back. Yep, even with masks on, we know we are smiling, look at those eyes. You've done it, things have kicked in and they'll feel better. So will you by the way. This takes no time, you smile as you walk past them. Done and dusted. Add in a 'Kia Ora', a 'good morning', or a 'hey' and you'll really be cooking. You can even count the smiles, a smile tally challenge........

Listen

OK, so this takes a bit of time, but you totally have the skills and talent for this. Most people working in healthcare right now are walking around with some angst, worries or some tension You don't have to find answers for them, you don't have to have solutions, you only have to listen. They'll feel better, and most of all they'll feel important. They matter enough that you have given them space and time to listen to them. Don't look at the phone, don't take that text, don't glance at your watch. It will be minutes, not hours, and they'll walk away lighter, feeling special and in a much better place for whatever and whoever they go to next.

Say thank you

You'll get and give countless  'get better', 'work harder', and 'do better' instructions and tasks over the day. Get specific about it, and say thank you. Mean it, take a little time to frame it so it makes them smile so much and everyone gets a little tingle.
